‘Let’s stop whining’: 911 dispatcher’s conduct under review after call

The 911 dispatcher who answered a call from a teenage girl whose father was fatally struck changing a tire on the side of a Maryland highway Sunday night is under review after he instructed the teen to "stop whining," MyFoxDC.com reported.

"Can y'all please hurry up?" the teen says.

The operator, who was not identified, responds, "Ma'am stop yelling. I need a location."

The call continued and the girl explained that two people were struck. The operator cuts her off and is heard saying, "OK, let's stop whining. OK, let's stop whining. It's hard to understand you."

The station reported that the accident occurred along the Baltimore-Washington Parkway. The girl's father, Rick Warrick, 38, was driving the family home to dinner when his Hyundai Excel got a flat. He exited the car on the shoulder and was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver. Her mother also was injured.

Authorities said the dispatcher has been placed in a role where he will not have contact with the public. An Anne Arundel Fire Department captain told MyFoxDC.com the dispatcher's conduct did not meet expectations.
