Georgia murder suspect arrested after Chicago standoff

A man wanted in connection with the death of his wife in Georgia was arrested Sunday evening following a standoff on Lake Shore Drive in Chicago that lasted over eight hours.
Joseph Andrew Felton Jr., 43, had been sought by police in Henry County, Ga. after his wife, Sheray Latriest Felton, was found dead in the couple's home Saturday. Authorities described her death only as suspicious and an autopsy was planned for Monday.
Police in suburban Harvey, Ill. spotted Felton's car at around 1 p.m. Sunday after authorities in Georgia alerted them to be on the lookout for it. They chased the car for approximately 20 miles before it crashed on Lake Shore Drive just north of Fullerton, in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood.
Authorities said that Felton hit several cars during the chase, including a police car and a vehicle carrying two adults and a 10-year-old child. The police officer and all three family members were treated at a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
After the crash Felton's car was surrounded by police vehicles and the standoff began. Officers spoke to Felton through a loudspeaker reiterating that they wanted him to come out, referencing Felton's family, and at one point offering him food and water.
"Understand this," one officer said. "We're not leaving until you come out safely." Shortly before 9:30 p.m. local time, Felton did just that.
Felton lived in Chicago with his wife until he moved to unincorporated Hampton, Ga. between three and four months ago. The Chicago Sun-Times reported that Felton has a history of domestic abuse. He was charged with misdemeanor battery in Georgia this past July and was accused of slapping his wife and pulling her wig off in a liquor store.
