Florida Air Force Base Reopened After Assault

A Florida Air Force base has reopened its gates following an alleged assault, officials said.

Sgt. Brian Jones, a spokesman for Eglin Air Force Base, said the gates were closed for less than two hours following the alleged assault late Wednesday.

"There were no guns or anything to that effect," he said. "It was a very, very isolated incident."

The investigation into the alleged attack is ongoing, Jones said. No additional information was immediately available, including whether the assault involved military personnel.

"After a report of an assault on base, our Eglin security forces responded swiftly and appropriately," 96th Air Base Wing Commander Col. Bruce McClintock said in a statement.

"We kept the gates closed as the investigation unfolded in order to maximize safety and security. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation."
