Family Sacrifices for USS Eisenhower Naval Officer

Published January 07, 2015

Military families make tremendous sacrifices to defend U.S. freedoms.

One naval officer, lead Petty Officer Juan Ramos, 29, lives this sacrifice. A flight deck supervisor aboard the USS Eisenhower, Ramos spends up to six months at a time away from his wife and six children.

"I’m out here for my kids and my wife ultimately above all. They are my motivation,” said Ramos, who lives aboard the carrier in cramped quarters with about eight other sailors.

His wife and kids live in Virginia Beach, Va.

“It’s a lot harder than what I thought it would be with him being gone so often,” his wife, Bridget, said in an interview with Fox News.

Ramos said he takes pride in his work despite the frequent hardships. Ramos, who has already spent 9 years at sea, shipped out to sea after the 9/11 attacks — the morning after his son's birth.
