The family of a Pennsylvania man found dead in an elevator shaft following his arrival at a Florida airport is struggling to find answers about how he died.
Chad Wolfe, 31, flew into the Tampa International Airport shortly after midnight Friday with his girlfriend. Garland Wolfe, Chad's father, says his son was planning to visit family before heading to Daytona Bike Week, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Investigators believe Chad Wolfe got into an elevator on the third floor of the airport parking garage and was heading up to the seventh floor, Fox 13 reports.
On Friday morning, Wolfe was found dead on top of a bank of elevators. His luggage and cellphone were found on the seventh floor.
Officials at the airport said there are no surveillance cameras on the seventh floor and Wolfe’s body was transported to a medical examiner to determine a cause of death, Fox 13 reports.
Garland said Chad may have been looking for a place to smoke at the airport, but he isn’t buying a police explanation that Chad tried to pry the elevator doors open.
“He's a small guy. At 145 pounds that's virtually impossible," Garland Wolfe told the Tampa Bay Times, adding that his son showed no signs of depression and had been with his girlfriend for a decade.
An airport spokeswoman told the newspaper that there were no signs of foul play.
