Published November 17, 2014

Fox News

The FAA has confirmed that one person was killed when a Missouri Highway Patrol helicopter crashed in Clarkson Valley, Missouri shortly after 11 a.m.

The victim is 47-year-old Sgt. Joseph Shuengel, who is a 17-year veteran of the Missouri Highway Patrol. He was a pilot for Troop C for the last seven years and flew both helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

Schuengel was the only one in the helicopter and was flying it back to the Spirit of St. Louis airport in Chesterfield. He had recently dropped off several other troopers.

Witnesses say the helicopter looked as though it was "not flying right" and that it "dropped like a rock."
