California Mother Accused of Locking Child in Closet Over Bad Grades

Published November 17, 2014

Fox News

A California woman was charged with child abuse after allegedly subjecting her daughter to an extreme punishment for bad grades: locking her up in a closet for six hours.

Costa Mesa police say the mother, 32, hit her 13-year-old daughter on Oct. 29 with a stick before locking her up, the Daily Pilot reports.

The newspaper withheld the mother’s name to protect the identity of the daughter.

The mother was arrested after the incident and was held in Orange County Jail until Monday, when she was released after posting bail, the Daily Pilot reports. She faces a misdemeanor count of child abuse.

The daughter is now in custody of Orangewood Children & Family Center’s Care.
