Boy, 1, killed after Milwaukee home sprayed with gunfire

Milwaukee police are reporting that a 1-year-old boy was murdered after someone sprayed a house on a quiet block with dozens of bullets.

Fox6Now said the boy was sitting in the living room of the home on Saturday evening when a bullet struck him in the leg.

The child was conscious and breathing after being hit but died later at a hospital.

At a news conference Sunday afternoon, police said they were following up on "at least one very positive lead" that is pointing them in the direction of "one or more people." They are also analyzing ballistic evidence from more than one gun.

According to police, the child was sitting in a front room of the home when several rounds entered through the front windows. Police say the child and his mother were visiting the home at the time of the shooting.

"Dozens. Dozens of bullets into a home. There were plenty that didn't make it into the house," said Milwaukee Police Capt. Rapp at a news conference.

Kenny Summ, a neighbor, said the block is pretty quiet.

“There is issues every once in a while but everybody usually keeps to themselves. It’s pretty quiet most of the time,” Summ told Fox6Now.

"I don't know if the shooters were stupid, on drugs," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett at the news conference. "I don't know if they had the wrong house but as far as we can tell, the people in this home had nothing to do with those shots being fired."

A vigil was held at the scene Sunday evening. "I feel sad. I feel really sad." the boy's uncle, Be Thao told Fox6Now. "We just gather together and cry for the innocent child."
