Beloved dog reunited with family after being saved from drowning by Good Samaritan

A 15-year-old dog named Elsie was reunited with her family Saturday after a harrowing journey.

Elsie, who is blind and partially deaf, was nowhere to be found when owner Dennis Carter and his wife returned to their Florida home on Friday after a short vacation, Fox 13 News reported.

Elsie is believed to have escaped and run to a dock along the Alafia River with the help of another one of Carter's dogs.

"The river is right there and that's where we take them," Carter explained.

That's where Brian Peterson enters the story, according to the station.

He was jet skiing on the river on July 4 when a woman alerted him to a dog in the water.

"Elsie was drowning," Peterson told Fox 13. "I got on my jet ski, went over and jumped out and saved her."

Peterson's girlfriend Dana Moylan witnessed the rescue on Wednesday afternoon.

"When she was brought up on the island she was almost dead," Moylan said. "I could tell she was blind."

Elsie recovered, and Peterson made fliers about a found dog. Within an hour, Carter saw one of the posters, and late Saturday got his friend back.
