2 young children die in central Illinois house fire

Published April 02, 2017

Fox News

Two young children died in a central Illinois house fire early Sunday morning, and their parents, who escaped the blaze, were being treated for unspecified injuries.

One of the first officials on the scene at the fire spoke with the parents, who told them a 2-year-old child and 3-month-old infant remained in the Pana house, WAND reported.

Firefighters and police, however, were stymied by intense heat and smoke and were unable to enter the dwelling for several minutes. When they were finally able to venture inside, they discovered the dead bodies of the children on the second level of the building.

The cause of the fire was being investigated, WAND reported.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
