The Humane Society’s Washington Director Dan Paul described the assault as “truly horrific,” “sickening” and “despicable."

Investigators on Tuesday increased their reward to $13,000 for information leading to a conviction after they said somebody sexually assaulted a female pit bull and then hanged the dog from a tree in the Thurston County woods. A mountain biker discovered the poor pup dead on March 21, according to Q13Fox.

Officials said the dog’s feet were barely touching the ground and she died of asphyxiation. Scratch marks were evident on a nearby tree showing how the dog struggled. Evidence points to the dog being “severely sexually assaulted” while restrained.

“This makes me furious,” Officer Erika Johnson told Q13Fox.

Authorities have collected DNA samples and say they hope they can find a match and track down the perpetrator.

Officers have nicknamed the dog “Justice.” Now, they’re hoping to achieve some justice for her, too.

“Just to think that this helpless dog went through so much at the hands of some monster,” Johnson said. “I think that anybody that’s capable of committing a crime like this needs to be put behind bars.”
