Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Hockey Mom Defense

Alaska Republican Governor Sarah Palin has fired back at David Letterman in their continuing feud over remarks the late-night comic made about Palin and her daughter. The former vice presidential nominee today called Letterman's comments "degrading."

(BEGIN CLIP)

GOVERNOR PALIN: "I would like to see him apologize to young women across the country for contributing to that, kind of that thread that is throughout our culture that makes it sound like it's OK to talk about young girls in that way. Where it's kind of OK, accepted, and funny to talk about statutory rape. It's not cool. It's not funny."

(END CLIP)

Letterman joked Monday about the Palins going to Yankee Stadium, that quote "during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez." He also referred to Palin as "slutty."

Letterman tried to "clarify" his remarks Wednesday, saying they were misunderstood and in poor taste.

Mixed Messages

Massachusetts Democratic Governor Deval Patrick may be in hot water with himself after allegedly violating ethics rules he supports.

The Boston Globe reports, after legislators agreed to approve pension reform Thursday, Patrick sent the House speaker a box of cigars and the Senate president some flowers.

But state rules ban gifts of $50 or more to a public official in return for an official action. And the governor himself is pushing for an ethics overhaul that would ban gifts of any kind to public officials.

Island Hopping

We told you earlier about those 4 Uighers who have been relocated to the island of Bermuda. Well, with a change of address comes new neighbors.

The New York Daily News reports the Uighers are leaving behind the likes of terror mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed for the rich and famous.

Among those with homes on the island are New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and Hollywood A-listers like Michael Douglas and wife Catherine Zeta Jones.

No word yet how they will welcome the Uighers to the neighborhood.
