And now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine...
Just Business
You are paying a half million dollars so the Justice Department criminal division can increase its presence on social media -- not to fight crime -- but to help business.
The contract for LinkedIn's recruiter service was first reported by the Washington Free Beacon. It gives the division access to see the full profile of all LinkedIn accounts as well as the ability to advertise and promote job openings.
The Department says the deal will increase its brand awareness.
One critic tweeted -- quote -- "If DOJ would get LinkedIn to its basic responsibilities its brand awareness would take care of itself."
Secretly Transparent
Listen to this next sentence carefully.
The Government Accountability and Transparency Board is going to hold its first-ever public meeting later this month. First ever.
That's according to the FederalTimes.com.
A 2011 executive order created the board to -- quote -- "provide strategic direction for enhancing the transparency of Federal spending and advance efforts to detect and remediate fraud, waste, and abuse in Federal programs."
The board has publicly posted the minutes from meetings in the past.
Friday Follow-up
Finally, a Friday follow-up on the Hawaiian woman whose name was too long for her driver’s license.
Her old ID came with a 35 character limit, so her first name was omitted and her last name was cut off.
The state Transportation Department has changed its policy so the whole name, as you see here -- [Janice Keihanaikukauakahihuliheekahaunaele] -- now fits.
Next up, she will go after social security cards.
The Grapevine has spared me from trying to pronounce her name.
