GRETA VAN SUSTEREN, HOST: Joining us now by phone from the Alabama Emergency Operating Center is Alabama's governor, Bob Riley. Governor, at the moment, Ivan appears headed for your state, the eye of the storm towards Mobile, Ala. But of course, it could change. What are you hearing about the conditions there?
ALABAMA GOV. BOB RILEY: Greta, I just got off the phone with some people down in our barrier islands. They're pretty much underwater right now. There is a significant amount of damage, a lot of power out on those islands. We're just trying to brace for it and be able to respond first thing in the morning.
VAN SUSTEREN: Governor, I understand that you've asked the president for some federal assistance in anticipation that your state is going to be the eye of the storm. Tell me about that, sir.
RILEY: Well, we made the request today and I'm sure that the governor — it's a governor's request — and I'm sure the president will act on it. He sent the FEMA director and his team down today. They're going to stay with us here for the next two or three days until we can assess the damage and determine what we need. The administration has been just fantastic in working with us down here.
And we're going to have a tough time. We're going to have a tough time here for the next two or three days because it looks like these 140- mile-an-hour winds are coming directly into Alabama. But the thing, I guess, that concerns me the most right now is that we had expected this up until this afternoon, really, that the eye would come on shore some time around 6:00 o'clock, when it would be during daylight. Now it's going to come on at 1:00 or 2:00 o'clock in the morning, so we've got four hours of darkness that we've got to contend with.
VAN SUSTEREN: Thank you, Governor.
