Samsung security stumble? S8 reviewer unlocks phone with selfie

Samsung’s new S8 phone was launched amid a blaze of publicity last week, with the tech giant touting, in particular, the device’s security features.
The S8 lets users unlock the phones using an iris scanner and facial recognition technology. Speaking during the launch event, Samsung’s Senior Vice President of Product Strategy Justin Denison described the technology as "the most secure form of biometric security we have ever created."

However, Twitter user @Marcianophone got his hands on the yet-to-be-launched phone at the New York launch event. In a Periscope video he takes a selfie on another Samsung phone and holds it up to the S8, unlocking the new device.
Mashable notes that, while unlocking the S8 with a selfie might be worrying for consumers, the phone may not have been running the final version of its software.

The S8 and S8+ will be available April 21, so there is still time for Samsung to make some final tweaks to its software.
After last year’s Note 7 debacle, the stakes are high for Samsung's S8. The Note 7 launch quickly degenerated into a PR nightmare of epic proportions as Samsung was forced to end production of the troubled phone following users' reports that the phones were catching fire or exploding.

During his presentation during the launch event, Denison said: “We put the Galaxy S8 through our toughest safety testing processes ever.”
Samsung has not yet responded to a request for comment on this story from Fox News.
