Seattle Debates Ban on Nudity in City Parks

Published January 13, 2015

Fox News

Seattle parks are debating whether nature really is an appropriate place for the au naturel.

Against all tradition in this non-traditional city, public nudity may no longer be permitted on park property — including skinny dipping, naked tanning and even barbecues in the buff, according to The Seattle Times.

The proposed mass cover-up will be the subject of a public hearing in January, but the Times indicated that park authorities may get an earful from the nature-loving nudists who have become part of the city’s fabric.

"If they outlaw nudity, only criminals will be nude," a Seattle Weekly blogger noted.

Nudity is not illegal under Washington state law. But the city parks department received a number of complaints after 80-odd “naturists” took part in the World Naked Bike Ride — Seattle’s third naked bike ride of the year that sparked the proposal of the no-nudity rule.
