Researchers: Children Stressing Out Six Months Before Pre-School

New research shows pre-schoolers are stressing out six months before they start school, Australia’s News Limited reported on Friday.

Researchers from the United Kingdom’s University of Bath found it can take another six months for the children to get rid of the stress. Researchers tested the stress hormone cortisol to gauge the children’s levels.

"This could have implications for the amount of preparation that children are given before starting school," researcher Julie Turner-Cobb said in the article.

Another researcher, Michael Carr-Gregg, parents’ hyping the start of school was often the cause for the high anxiety.

"This response is a normal and natural reaction and after six months (of school) we found the stress levels to be significantly lower, indicating that children had adapted well to the school environment," Turner-Cobb said.
