N.J. Cheerleader, 11, Returns Home After 118th Brain Surgery

Published January 14, 2015

Fox News

A New Jersey 11-year-old returned home this week after undergoing her 118th brain surgery, CBS 3 News reported.

Michaela Healy of Washington Township, N.J., spent the past month in California undergoing her most recent surgery for an abnormal amount of fluid on her brain.

Michaela was diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a chronic condition marked by fluid on the brain, when she was 1. Despite the condition, she has tried to live a normal life, scheduling her treatments around school and cheerleading, according to the report.

"I'm so used to it by now, I really don't care anymore; they'll be like, 'OK, you need surgery.' I'll be like, 'OK, it's alright,'" Michaela told CBS 3.

The condition must be treated on an as-needed basis, said her father, Michael Healy. Michaela was in California undergoing the surgery because that is where her neurosurgeon has relocated.
