Iraqi Detainee Dies After Marine Raid

A 65-year-old Iraqi detainee died Aug. 18 of an apparent heart attack following a house raid south of Iskandariyah, the U.S. military said in a statement.

According to the statement, the Iraqi Army (search) and soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 155th Infantry, 155th Brigade Combat Team (search), II Marine Expeditionary Force took part in the raid.

The man was taken to the Forward Operating Base Iskandariyah aid station (search), where he was pronounced dead, the military said.

The military promised a full investigation surrounding the circumstances and the cause of the man's death. The man's remains are set to be transferred to the family upon completion of an autopsy.

The 155th BCT is a U.S. Army unit assigned to the II Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (search).
