Fast Facts: Crashes at Teterboro

Teterboro Airport (search), which is near New York City, was the site of several small plane crashes before Wednesday's crash of a corporate jet. The following is a list of previous crashes:

— Sept. 9, 2002: A Piper Saratoga carrying a Canadian family crashed into a housing development in Hunterdon County 10 minutes after taking off from Teterboro Airport. The parents were killed and two children were critically injured.

— March 9, 2002: A Cessna 210N crashed and exploded in flames shortly after takeoff. The pilot died. The plane narrowly missed cars traveling on Route 46 before it crashed.

— March 8, 2001: A small plane crashed and exploded in flames shortly after takeoff, killing its pilot and just missing a stream of vehicles traveling on Route 46.

— December 1999: A private plane, attempting to land at Teterboro, crashed into two back yards in Hasbrouck Heights, killing all four on board and cutting into the living room of a nearby house. No one on the ground was injured.

— March 29, 1993: A private twin-engine plane crashed in an industrial area of Elmwood Park two minutes after takeoff, killing all six passengers on board.

— In 1988, all four people aboard a Learjet 35A died when the pilot crashed it at full power into a West Paterson hillside minutes after takeoff. The aircraft narrowly missed numerous houses.

— A midair collision in 1985 killed five people in two planes and one on the ground, after one plane slammed into a Cliffside Park apartment building and the second showered the area with debris.
