Doctor Who Mutilated Patients Sentenced to Prison

A doctor — who claimed to be one of the world’s best plastic surgeons – won’t be standing over an operating table anytime soon.

Michel Maure, 59, was sentenced to four years in prison by a French court Monday for mutilating and endangering the lives of dozens of patients, Agence-France Presse reported.

Maure was charged with false advertising, deception, and causing involuntary injury.

"He engaged in a type of garage surgery that showed a total contempt for others," said Judge Vincent Turbeaux, in a news release. Many of his female patients described his methods as "violent," according to the AFP.

Maure was captured in Spain last month after disappearing while awaiting the verdict of his trial in the southern French city of Marseille, according to the report.

Close to 100 of his patients had filed complaints against him, describing horribly painful procedures carried out in unsanitary conditions at his clinic, AFP reported.
