And now the most fascinating two minutes in television, the latest from the wartime grapevine:
Al Qaeda Plotting Attacks
After long insisting that members of Al Qaeda (search) were just seeking refuge inside its borders, Iran is now admitting the network has set up operational cells inside the country to plot attacks elsewhere.
What's more, the Iranian foreign minister, Kamal Kharrazi (search), accuses those cells of committing crimes against Iran's own national security.
But Kharrazi, quoted by the Financial Times, still insists the bombing four months ago in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, that killed several Americans was not planned by senior Al Qaeda members in Iran.
A Dem Who Disagrees With Dad
One week after Sen. Ted Kennedy (search) blasted President Bush for employing a, "fraud" that was "made up in Texas" to go to war in Iraq, a fellow New England Democrat is making it known he strongly disagrees.
The Democratic congressman says…"The fact is, [Saddam Hussein] definitely had [weapons of mass destruction] ... He had them and he's got a propensity for invading neighboring countries and causing instability in a part of the world [where] we can't afford to have a lot of instability."
That congressman happens to be Kennedy's son Patrick, a house member from Rhode Island.
Conserve the Applause
Dozens of students at Brigham Young University walked out on a speech by veteran former White House correspondent Helen Thomas (search) after she called President Bush the worst president ever and said the war in Iraq is, "wrong" and "becoming more dubious every day."
The audience did erupt into applause at one point, though,...after she said President Bush was, "more conservative than any president I've ever covered." Thomas wondered aloud, "Am I in enemy territory?"
Different Week...Different Times
With new polls showing Arnold Schwarzenegger (search) well ahead in the race to replace Gray Davis (search) as governor, the LA Times is now saying, "it became apparent last week that ...Davis' anti-recall campaign was in trouble."
But the LA Times didn't seem to notice that last week, when it quoted with a straight face Davis' campaign saying it was, "within striking distance of saving" the governor's job, and that internal polls showed a swing of several points in Davis' favor when voters were told Davis' successor would be Republican Schwarzenegger.
Ted Turner Makes Fearful Forecast
CNN founder Ted Turner (search)…who twenty years ago warned that newspapers would cease to exist by the year 2000…is now warning there is a 50-50 chance humanity will come to an end in the next 50 years. Turner told a group of journalists in Atlanta, disease, global warming and weapons of mass destruction, "scare the living daylights out of me."
