Retired US women's soccer star Wambach pleads guilty in DUI case

Retired U.S. Soccer star Abby Wambach pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence of intoxicants in an Oregon courtroom.
Wambach, 35, was sentenced to a year-long diversion program by by Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Steven A. Todd. She will be required to undergo drug and alcohol treatment and get a breathalyzer installed in her vehicle.
Neither Wambach nor her attorney had any comment after Tuesday's hearing.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist and member of the 2015 Women's World Cup-winning U.S. Women's National Team was arrested April 2 after police said she ran a red light in downtown Portland and failed field sobriety tests. Her blood alcohol content was .13 percent, above Oregon's limit of .08 percent. Wambach was later released on her recognizance and has since apologized publicly.
Soon after her arrested, Wambach posted on her Facebook page that she had made a "horrible mistake" and had "let herself and others down."
