Pirates put Maholm on DL

The Pittsburgh Pirates have placed starting day disabled list due to a left shoulder strain.

Maholm, who is on the DL for the first time in his career, is 6-14 with a 3.66 ERA in 26 starts this season. He's taken the loss in each of his last five decisions.

The Pirates are expected to make a corresponding roster move Saturday.
