Philadelphia Eagles sticking with Vick, for now

NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Philadelphia Eagles will pick up Michael Vick's roster bonus this week, giving the team time to decide whether to keep the quarterback or trade him, the National Football League's website reported Monday.

The Eagles, who took a chance on Vick last year after he missed two seasons because of a prison sentence, have told the quarterback's agent they will pay the $1.5 million bonus, a report on nfl.com quoted a league source as saying.

If the Eagles do not pick up Vick's bonus and release him they will not get anything in return.

Vick, 29, was released from jail in May after being sentenced in 2007 to 23 months in prison for bankrolling a dog-fighting ring.

He was used sporadically by the Eagles last season and completed six of 13 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. He also rushed for 95 yards and two scores.

Vick, a former first overall draft pick of the Atlanta Falcons, has said he wants to be a starter next season, but Philadelphia are deep in the position with Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb.

"(The decision is) not due until tomorrow," a spokesman for the Eagles said. "Tomorrow is when a decision would be made."
