CHICAGO (Reuters) - Power-hitting outfielder Alfonso Soriano was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained left quadriceps muscle, the National League team said.

Soriano left Monday's game against the Houston Astros in the first inning after grabbing his leg a few steps from first base as he ran down the line after hitting a grounder.

The 35-year-old Dominican was batting .271 and leading the Cubs with 12 home runs and 29 runs batted in.

Chicago, 23-29 and 7-1/2 games behind the NL Central leading St Louis Cardinals, called up Tyler Colvin to take his place on the roster. He was hitting .260 in 12 games with five doubles, two triples and one home run at Triple A.
