Albert Pujols, arguably the best player in baseball, has reportedly given the St. Louis Cardinals until Feb. 16 to keep him beyond the 2011 season.
The All-Star first baseman imposed the Wednesday deadline, according to reports, because that's when he reports to spring training in Florida.
Talks have stalled between Pujols and the Cardinals, the only he's ever played for since he broke into the majors in spectacular fashion in 2001.
Several reports have cited the contract Alex Rodriguez agreed to with the New York Yankees as a barometer. After the 2007 season, Rodriguez signed a $275 million, 10-year deal.
