A photographer has captured the unusual sight of an owl taking a dip in Lake Michigan.

Steve Spitzer was at Loyola Park Beach in Chicago’s Rogers Park area when he spotted something strange moving in the lake, according to WGN-TV. The object turned out to be a breast-stroking Great Horned Owl. The bird had apparently been forced into the water by two Peregrine Falcons.

Spitzer, who describes himself as “a birder at heart,” captured the unusual swimming scene on video and in photos.

The owl apparently survived its watery adventure unscathed. Bird rescue was called to the scene but the owl reportedly flew away.
