President Trump lays out principles of health care reform

President Trump laid out new details Tuesday night on how he and Republican lawmakers will begin to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

In his primetime address to a joint session of Congress, Trump gave a basic blueprint on what he intends to do, which includes making sure people with pre-existing conditions have access to coverage, allowing people to buy insurance across state lines and offer tax credits.

Here are a few of the principles he said “should guide the Congress as we move to create a better healthcare system for all Americans.”

Ensure that Americans with pre-existing conditions have access to coverage, and that there is a stable transition for Americans currently enrolled in the healthcare exchanges.
Help Americans purchase their own coverage through the use of tax credits and expanded health savings accounts.
Give governors the resources and flexibility they need with Medicaid.
Implement legal reforms that protect patients and doctors from “unnecessary costs that drive up the price of insurance.”
Work to drive down “the artificially high” price of drugs.
Allow Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines.
