Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell, R-KY, landed in Iraq on Friday, hosting a small, Republican congressional delegation, according to a McConnell spokesman.

The group, including Sens. Saxby Chambliss, R-GA,John Barrasso, R-WY, and James Risch, R-ID, met with Gen Ray Odierno, top military man in Iraq, as well as Lt Gen Charles Jacoby, Commander Multi National Corps Iraq, "to discuss current operations and the transition of mission," according to the McConnell aide.

The group lunched with U.S. soldiers from their home states and walked the streets, visiting the market of Sabah al-Bur with a Stryker Brigade Combat Team from the National Guard, the aide said. The group reviewed current security conditions.

It does not appear the delegation met with Prime Minister Maliki.

The journey started on Saturday with visits throughout the Middle East, including Egypt, Israel, and Jordan. The senators met with top officials in each country.

Due to security concerns, the McConnell aide could give no further details on the trip.
