RAW DATA: Blumenthal Comments on Military Service

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal claims he misspoke about his military service on a "few" occasions out of hundreds of addresses, after The New York Times reported that the Democratic Senate candidate has been misleading the public about his record.

Blumenthal served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve during the Vietnam War but did not serve in Vietnam.

The New York Times reported that Blumenthal made the following comments in recent years:

2003 in Bridgeport, Conn.: "When we returned, we saw nothing like this. Let us do better by this generation of men and women."

March 2008 in Norwalk: "This nation has a way of sending young men and women to war and then forgetting them when they come home, and that is unforgivable. ... We have learned something very important since the days that I served in Vietnam. ... Whatever we think about the war ... we owe our military men and women unconditional support."

2008 in Shelton: "I served during the Vietnam era. I remember the taunts, the insults, sometimes even physical abuse."
