Katherine Archuleta (U.S. Department of Labor)

Katherine Archuleta, a former senior advisor to Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, today is expected to be named President Obama’s political director for this 2012 campaign.

Ben LaBolt, press secretary for the campaign, confirmed her appoint via twitter.

Archuleta would be the first Latina in that position on a major political campaign. Archuleta, currently the chief of staff to Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, is expected to start her job “within days,” a campaign source says.

Archuleta was the former executive director of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation. She is co-founder of Semilla Group, a women’s consulting group that focuses on community development.

In her new role, she will also help with Hispanic Outreach and communication with elected officials and groups, according to The Denver Post.
