A senior administration official tells Fox News U.S. and Russian negotiations will return to the negotiating table in Geneva Monday to press ahead on nuclear arms reductions talks.
The negotiations resume after President Obama and Russian President Dmitri Medvedev "narrowed their differences" on nuclear arms and delivery system cuts in a phone conversation Wednesday.
The official said there is no timeline for completing negotiations on a new arms control treaty, one meant to replace two previous arms control agreements between the two nations. The official would not characterize how close both sides were to a deal. Tailoring a final agreement that can win approval in the Senate remains a top consideration, the official said.
"We want to make substantial progress on the president's goal of reducing nuclear weapons and delivery systems, but because this is a treaty it won't be successful unless we can get it through on Capitol Hill."
Any new arms reduction treaty would require support from two-thirds of the Senate for passage.
