GOP Rep. Camp say he has 'highly treatable' form of cancer

Michigan Republican Rep. Dave Camp said Saturday he has a form of cancer known as non-Hodgkins lymphoma but will continuing serving on Capitol Hill.

Camp, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, said the disease was discovered during a routine, yearly physical and is considered “high treatable and curable.”

The 59-year-old Camp said his treatment will consist of chemotherapy sessions every three weeks over the next few months.

“My health is otherwise excellent and my doctors and I expect a full recovery and cure,” Camp said in a statement. “My family and I appreciate the support, good wishes and understanding we have received.”

Camp was elected to Congress in 1991 and in seeking re-election this year again in the state’s fourth district.

“Anyone who has the privilege to know Dave Camp will tell you he is as tough and determined as they come,” said House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio. “And have no doubt he’ll whip this with characteristic strength and grace. Today I extend to Chairman Camp and his family the support and prayers of the whole House, which will stand with him just as he has always stood with us.”
