More than a dozen people, including seven who are undocumented, were arrested at a protest against laws that make it difficult for people brought unlawfully as children to attend college.

Those arrested at the Charlotte rally face charges.

They were arrested Tuesday on charges of disorderly conduct and impeding traffic during the sit-in rally that nearly 200 people attended at Central Piedmont Community College.

Rally organizer Domenic Powell said young people planned to publicly declare their immigration status in what he called a "coming out" rally.

The students call themselves "dreamers" after legislation in Congress known as the DREAM Act, which would give a pathway to legal status to young, educated illegal immigrants without criminal records.

This is based on a story by The Associated Press.
