Republicans might need one more election to build a majority in the Senate, the man in charge of the GOP's Senate campaign arm said Sunday.
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, told "Fox News Sunday" that his party will "fight for every seat we can possibly get" on Nov. 2.
But with most forecasters far more confident about a GOP takeover in the House than in the Senate, Cornyn said the party might have to wait until 2012 to seize an all-out majority in Congress.
"I'm not predicting we're going to get back the majority," he said. "It may be a two-cycle process."
Cornyn said the party sees 12 Senate seats in play, calling that a "theoretical pathway" to the 51 seats needed to seize control.
Republicans need to hold all their seats and win 10 more in order to take the majority.
