Congress wrapped up its work for the week on Thursday, so things around the Capitol will be relatively quiet. We’ll take the day to break down the flurry of legislative activity and let you know what it all means heading into the final week before the July 4th recess period.

The House and Senate passed new, tough sanctions on the Islamic Republic of Iran. The measures, which target companies that do business with Iran and its Revolutionary Guard Corps will head to the White House for a presidential signature next week.

Both chambers also passed a six-month “doc fix” bill. The legislation keeps doctors who serve Medicare patients from facing a 21 percent decrease in payments from the government program. Democrats had originally planned to include it in a larger so-called “extenders” bill.

The extenders bill, which extended tax cuts and social spending programs, was not able to get enough votes to invoke cloture to end debate. Despite several large cuts to the legislation, the $35 billion in deficit spending was too much for some centrist Democrats to stomach so close to election season.

Just because members are back home doesn’t mean they won’t be making news though, so stay with Fox News for all the latest.
