With only a week to go until Election Day, former President Bill Clinton paid a visit to Chicago to help make sure the Illinois Senate seat up for grabs stays in Democrats' hands.

The Democrat running to fill the Senate seat, once held by President Barack Obama, is Illinois Treasurer, Alexi Giannoulias. Giannoulias is in a neck and neck race with his Republican opponent, US Rep. Mark Kirk. The latest Fox News Poll shows Kirk with only a slight advantage over Giannoulias, 43% to 41%.

After taking the stage almost an hour behind scheudule, Bill Clinton fired up the crowd of more than 1,000 inside the historic Palmer House Hilton saying, "We are all here. Now the question is, what are we going to do?" Clinton spent nearly an hour praising the job of Democrats on Capitol Hill and said, "personally I believe the President and the Congress have done a better job than most people think they have done."

Clinton wasted no time taking a swipe at Republicans telling the crowd, "they (Republicans) talk the talk, but they act soft, they say you can spend all the money you want, you don't have to pay for anything, it's like telling a kid you can eat all the candy you want but you never have to go to the dentist."

Alexi Giannoulias introduced Bill Clinton, calling him "my personal hero." Clinton's appearance today in Chicago is the 4th high profile White House visit for Giannoulias. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and First Lady Michelle Obama have all traveled to Chicago to help Giannoulias' campaign within the past two months.
