Senior citizens are the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population, according to the Administration on Aging. Now, a new tablet called the Claris Companion has been created with their specific needs in mind.

A button-free device, the Claris Companion is designed to be easy to use and to help seniors stay on top of managing their health, according to Geof Auchinleck, CEO of Claris Healthcare.

"You don't have to log in or put anything in. Your emails come to you, photos come to you, messages come to you,” Auchinleck said. “But more importantly, self care information comes to you – like medication reminders and reminders on how to look after yourself.”

One of the device’s features helps the user quickly connect with a pharmacist or health care provider.

"A lot of us in our 50s are looking after aged parents who are now on their own, and we're all worrying at some level whether Mom's currently laying on the floor just out of reach of the telephone,” Auchinleck said. “So by having more channels of communications open,…the more confident we are that they're managing on their own."

Auchinleck said they plan to add a video conferencing feature to the tablet. The device costs between $549 to $649, and data plans range from $39 to $49 per month.
