It's one of the most famous stories ever told, but we guarantee you've never heard it like this.
FOX's two-hour live production of "The Passion" doesn't air until March 20th, but it's already shaping up to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience — and a highly inspirational one, too.
"It's extremely modern; there's no beards or robes or long hair or flip-flops or crocs," explains former "American Idol" winner Chris Daughtry, who portrays Judas. "You're seeing the characters in a different light."
And the costumes aren't the only things FOX has changed: According to Jencarlos Canela, who stars as Jesus, it's the music that sets this particular telling apart.
"This time around … we're doing the story and we were singing songs like "Love Can Move Mountains" from Celine Dion, "Home" from Phillip Phillips [and] "Demons" from Imagine Dragons," says Canela. "That's what stands out to me."
Daughtry also says he's confident this production of "The Passion" will enthrall an entirely new audience. "I think people — no matter what their background, or what their religious beliefs are — they're going to get a lot of feels," he says.
"It's mind-blowing," adds Canela. "There are some powerful, powerful moments and scenes, [and] I don't think we've ever seen Jesus in this way, or as human [as] in this portrayal."
Watch the clip above for more from Daughtry, Canela and Prince Royce, and be sure to tune in for "The Passion," airing this coming Sunday at 8/7c on FOX.
