On FOX & Friends this morning, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, despite being friends with Donald Trump, said the GOP frontrunner was out of line for bringing 9/11 onto the campaign trail.

“What he said about President Bush is absolutely wrong, and I know national intelligence. Several times I’ve held very, very high national security clearances in the justice department. You have to be looking for a needle in a haystack and put the three needles together in order to figure out 9/11"

Trump has been criticizing former President George W. Bush’s time in office. During a press conference in South Carolina he said, “I've heard for years he kept the country safe after 9/11. What does that mean, after? What about during 9/11? I was there. I lost a lot of friends that were killed in that building. The worst attack ever in this country, it was during his presidency. ... By the way, after that, we did ok. That's meaning the team scored 19 runs in the first inning, but after that we played well. I don't think so.”

That’s not his first time taking a jab at Jeb’s brother. At a GOP Town Hall hosted by CNN he pushed against his presidency saying, “We weren’t safe [during President Bush’s tenure]. That was the greatest attack in the history of the United States – worse than Pearl Harbor because it was individuals. We were attacked as individuals as opposed to the military. Greatest single attack.” He continued, “The war with Iraq was a disaster. Now Iran is taking over Iraq as sure as you’re sitting there… I was against the war in Iraq.”

Giuliani, who was mayor when the World Trade Centers were hit, defended President Bush.

“It’s not President Clinton’s fault. It’s not President Bush’s fault. It’s the fault of Bin Laden. After 9/11 I hold you accountable for not seeing things. I said it that day. I don’t hold you accountable before it happened because nobody anticipated that kind of attack of that capability by Bin Laden.” Giuliani added, “Here’s my words about President Bush — I said them that day as I got out of the building where I almost got killed — I grabbed Bernie Kerik’s arm and I said, ‘Thank God George Bush is the President of the United States.’"
