FNM Exclusive: Stephen Rider Reveals Hilarious Reason He Wanted a Part on Marvel's 'Daredevil'

Actors choose their roles for all kinds of reasons: to tackle a new genre, to challenge themselves, etc. But sometimes, like in Stephen Rider's case, the initial reason can be much more urgent.
Rider currently stars as Blake Tower on the hit Marvel series "Daredevil," and he couldn't be more thrilled about bringing the character to life. But as he explains in an exclusive interview with FNM, he was first drawn to the role for an entirely different reason.
"I don't think I had a choice!" laughs Rider. "I was like, 'I need a role! I need a job!'"
All kidding aside, Rider says he feels honored to breathe life into D.A. Blake Tower, a character whose history with Marvel goes back more than 40 years.
"[Blake Tower] is the district attorney of Hell's Kitchen; he's a pretty cool character," says Rider of his comic-book counterpart. "He reminds me of the guy who grew up not having — who grew up watching crime, and seeing things in his neighborhood … and really wanted to do something about it."
And just as Tower himself would want, Rider is doing his character justice.
"It's all about, 'What can I bring to the role? Who is this person and how does he view the world? What are his values?'" says Rider of studying up for his scenes. "And so once I got the role, I had to start asking a lot of questions … and that gave me a really good understand of the journey I thought he was going on."
If that's not enough to get you excited for the new season of Marvel's "Daredevil," Rider's final argument just might convince you otherwise.
"If you watched season one, it's [like that] on steroids," he says. "I tell people it's times ten. Times fifteen."
