Toyota has made a minivan for makers.

The Urban Utility concept vehicle (U2 for short, and fully vetted for trademark infringement...we guess) is a compact carryall designed with entrepreneurial tinkerers in mind.

It features a tailgate that turns into a ramp, a bubble body to maximize cargo space, retractable roof panels in case you need even more, and so many rails inside to secure your stuff.

The passenger seats fold and can be removed and the dashboard is appropriately futuristic, with digital gauges, an iPod dock, and a gear selector mounted on a pedestal that looks like it was designed by Dr. Theopolis.

No word on potential powertrains, but similar small vans like the Ford Transit Connect and Nissan NV200 are typically front-wheel-drive and powered by 4-cylinder engines.

Toyota says it developed the U2 with input from Makers, and will be looking for more when it puts it on display at upcoming World Maker Faire in New York City, Sept. 20th and 21st.
