It’s not the world’s fastest Indian, but for now it’s the smallest.

The recently reborn Indian Motorcycle company has resurrected the legendary Scout name for its new entry level bike.

The $10,999 cruiser is powered by an all-new 69 cubic inch twin that’s rated at 100 hp and 72 lb-ft of torque and finished with heritage design cues. A modern aluminum frame helps provide a low curb weight of 558 pounds, and a low seating position to go with it. The Scout’s long gas tank hearkens back to its namesake’s style, as does its standard tan leather solo saddle.

First built from 1920 and 1949, the Scout line became an iconic Indian model, and even served in the U.S. Military during WW II. In the 1950s and 1960s New Zealander Burt Munro chased land speed records on a streamliner built around a 1920 Scout, which had a top speed of just 55 mph when new, but eventually broke 200 mph. Munro’s adventure later turned into the 2005 film “The World’s Fastest Indian,” with Anthony Hopkins in the starring role.

The Scout is scheduled to hit showrooms late this year, where it will join the Chief, Chieftain and just unveiled Roadmaster touring bike, which sells for $26,999.
