Speeder faces $1,900 fine

Sometimes it’s cheaper to fly.

A Canadian man was caught by police doing 140 mph (226 kph) in a 62 mph (100 kph) zone and faces a hefty fine, CTV News reports.

The 28-year-old was driving a Chevrolet Malibu rental car on the Trans-Canada highway near the Nova Scotia town of Telford when police spotted him early this past Monday morning.

“These are speeds for a controlled race track, not for a 100-series highway,” said Cpl. Mark Kellock of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

According to police, the roads were snowy and icy at the time. The driver was pulled over without incident and charged with stunting, which applies to speeders going 31 mph (50 kph) or more over the posted limit. His license was immediately suspended for a week as the investigation continues.

If convicted, the driver faces a fine of $2,418.95 Canadian, the equivalent of $1,914.49 U.S. dollars.
