They may be among the most boring cars on the road, but they’re still hot stuff to crooks.

The National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) has released its latest report on 2010-2012 model year midsize and large cars stolen during the 2009-2012 time frame.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the best-selling Toyota Camry led the list and accounted for 15% of all thefts in the segment, followed by the Chevrolet Impala (which ironically is available as a police car,) Nissan Altima, Chevrolet Malibu and Ford Fusion.

The Dodge Charger, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord, Dodge Avenger and Chrysler 300 round out the top 10.

State to state, California, Florida and Michigan led the way, with the Motor City region of Detroit-Warren-Livonia racking up the most stolen car reports among metropolitan areas.

The good news is that over 93 percent of the cars snatched, were eventually recovered.

Maybe they’re not so desirable to undesirables, after all.
