Jeep Cherokee first U.S. car to make Japan's top 10 list

Jeep has conquered Japan.

The new Cherokee is the first American car to make the top 10 of Japan’s Car of the Year list, Automotive News reports. The small SUV joined the Mercedes C-Class, BMW i3 and Peugeot 308 on the traditionally domestic-heavy list.

As for what this means for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ bottom line, probably not too much.

While Jeep has been the top-selling U.S. automaker in Japan for several years, last year it delivered just 5,274 total, compared to Toyota’s 1480577, according to IHS Automotive. Jeep sells that many Cherokees alone in the U.S. about every 10 days.

Still, not a bad feather in the cap for America's most patriotic brand.
