A test drive took a turn for the worst in California on Sunday when a brand new GMC SUV caught fire while it was out for a spin.

KTLA reports that customers were aboard the 2015 Yukon when it started smoking and the driver began to lose control.

The model was redesigned this year and recently went on sale.

The vehicle was brought safely to a stop, however, and all of the occupants got out safely, but a fire broke out and fully engulfed the vehicle, burning it to the ground and causing its tires to explode.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but officials say the vehicle may have had a fluid leak prior to leaving the dealership.

A General Motors spokesperson says the automaker is aware of the incident and plans to send a team to investigate.
