DENVER – Brian Geer was shot on Oct. 1 after he went running to help a woman who was frantically banging on his front door.

Geer’s home surveillance camera captured the whole thing as the woman was trying to escape the suspect, Jesus Garcia-Chavez, at Geer’s front door.

"I could hear screaming as I was approaching the door and I probably heard a gunshot,” Geer said. “After I made contact with him he said 'oh you want a shot too?,' and he pulled the trigger.”

"She's screaming for help still, so I ran towards him I don't I'm not sure what I was thinking at this point except that she was in trouble,” Geer said.

With the woman shot, the paramedic and former paratrooper figured if he hit Chavez-Garcia hard enough he’d drop the gun.

"I didn't knock the gun out of his hand and that's when I was shot,” Geer said.

Geer’s wife called 911 as both laid bleeding by their front door.

"I've never experienced anything so scary in my life,” Cheri Geer, Brian’s wife said.

Police captured Chavez-Garcia at a Denver motel on Friday night.

Garcia-Chavez has a long criminal record and was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

He was illegally in the U.S. after previously being deported.

Both Geer and the female victim are expected to recover.

Now, facing months of rehabilitation, Geer says he’d do it all again.

"This is all worth it – it's painful. I'm going to be out of work for a while, [but] she's safe,” Geer said.

"He did a wonderful thing: He helped somebody that needed help – that's what's important. Luckily everything's okay,” Cheri Geer added.

"She's going to heal. I'm going to heal. He's put away, so right now I'm pretty happy with the way things turned out,” Geer said.

Friend’s have set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Geer’s medical bills.
