It was no hat trick for El Chapo.
Drug lord Joaquín Guzmán’s nickname trended globally — along with myriad memes — Friday when rumors surfaced he had bolted from prison for a third time.
Alas, the slippery kingpin is still behind bars in Mexico, and this image proves it.
“For the rumors: an image,” Mexican Secretary of the Interior Miguel Ángel Osorio Chong tweeted in Spanish along with the photo of a computer monitor showing El Chapo sitting in the slammer.
The rumors apparently spread as a result of a fictional article that posted online earlier in the day.
The head of the Sinaloa drug cartel escaped from prison in 2001 and was recaptured in February 2014.
In July 2015, he slipped out again through a tunnel in his cell. He was recaptured again on Jan. 8.
